Napolcom Imposes Single-Use Plastic Ban to Boost Environmental Sustainability
The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has officially prohibited the use of single-use plastics within its central and regional offices as part of a broader commitment to environmental sustainability. This directive, formalized in a memorandum dated August 28, 2025, was issued by Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan. It mandates the reduction and eventual elimination of disposable plastic items commonly used in office functions such as meetings, training sessions, and conferences.
Among the banned materials are plastic straws, stirrers, utensils, disposable cups, food containers, single-use water bottles, and plastic bags. Staff members are encouraged to transition toward environmentally friendly alternatives, including refillable drink containers, reusable cutlery, eco-friendly bags, and biodegradable products.
Calinisan emphasized that the policy is designed to cultivate "a culture of responsibility and sustainability" throughout Napolcom's operations. He noted that this initiative reflects the commission's alignment with global efforts such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as well as compliance with local government environmental regulations.
To ensure adherence, all Napolcom units have been directed to assess and adjust their current practices in support of this environmental directive.
