Comic-Con-Unveils-"Project-Hail-Mary"-Trailer-and-Star-Trek-Updates

Comic-Con Unveils "Project Hail Mary" Trailer and Star Trek Updates

Attendees at Saturday's Comic-Con in San Diego were treated to an early look at the highly anticipated sci-fi thriller "Project Hail Mary," set for release in U.S. theaters in March 2026. The film stars Ryan Gosling as astronaut Ryland Grace and features the directing duo Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, screenwriter Drew Goddard, and author Andy Weir, whose prior novel "The Martian" was adapted into an Oscar-nominated film. "Project Hail Mary," adapted from Weir's 2021 novel of the same name, follows teacher-turned-astronaut Ryland Grace, who awakens to find himself on a crucial mission to save Earth from a catastrophic solar event. Gosling described his character as "a scared guy who has to do something impossible." He praised the story, stating, "I knew it would be brilliant, because it’s Andy [Weir]. It took me places I’ve never been. It showed me things I had never seen. It was as heartbreaking as it was funny and I was… not just blown away, but also overwhelmed." Author Andy Weir expressed excitement about seeing his book brought to life, complimenting Gosling's portrayal for adding depth to the fictional character. Directors Miller and Lord, known for their work on the "Spider-Verse" Spider-Man films, revealed the technical challenges of filming mostly within a spaceship setting. Miller explained, "We had to build an entire spaceship in two modes of gravity, and then we built this entire massive tunnel at scale. This is insane, to build a tunnel that was like 100 feet (30 meters) long, filled up an entire stage." The screening offered several clips, highlighting the emotional connection between Gosling's character and an alien named Rocky, which Miller emphasized as "the heart of the movie." Fan April Rodriguez, who had read the source material, shared her enthusiasm: "I just never, like, envisioned it that way. So that was pretty cool." Earlier in the day, the Star Trek universe took center stage at Comic-Con, drawing thousands of fans eager to see exclusive footage from the upcoming fourth season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" premiering on Paramount+. One notable scene featured Captain Christopher Pike, played by Anson Mount, in a puppet-themed episode crafted by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Additionally, the event introduced "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy," a new series starring Holly Hunter as Nahla Ake, the academy's chancellor and captain of the USS Athena. Hunter shared her thoughts on the dual role, noting, "The captain is there to analyze in emergency situations, and then to delegate. And the chancellor is there to guide, to collaborate and to have tremendous empathy. It was just a wonderful combination of things." Comic-Con continues its programming through Sunday, concluding its annual celebration of pop culture and entertainment.

Lindsay-Lohan-Reflects-on-Motherhood's-Influence-in-"Freakier-Friday"-Sequel

Lindsay Lohan Reflects on Motherhood's Influence in "Freakier Friday" Sequel

Lindsay Lohan, attending the premiere of the eagerly awaited sequel "Freakier Friday" in Los Angeles on July 22, 2025, revealed how becoming a mother informed her portrayal in the film. Having welcomed her first child in 2023, Lohan expressed that the timing aligned perfectly with the movie’s production. "It felt full circle for me, and also the timing was pretty impeccable considering that I’m a new mom and I was able to bring being a mom into the character," Lohan shared at the London premiere on Thursday. "It’s the first time I’m able to do that on screen." The original 2003 "Freaky Friday" film, produced on a modest $26 million budget, was a box office success that grossed over $160 million worldwide and developed a devoted fan base. This new installment follows Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprising their iconic roles as mother and daughter Tess and Anna Coleman. Now, twenty years later, Anna navigates life as a single mother to her tomboyish teenage daughter Harper, played by Julia Butters. Tensions rise when Anna begins a relationship with Eric, the father of Harper’s new British classmate Lily, with whom Harper forms a contentious bond. The sequel escalates the premise, featuring an unusual body swap involving both mothers and daughters, dramatically intensifying the comedic chaos. Before accepting her role, Lohan emphasized the importance of portraying Anna as a complex, relatable character reflecting her growth and the challenges of single parenthood. "It was important to me that we explained who Anna is today and how she’s evolved and the dynamic between her and her daughter as she’s a single working mom," she explained. "There are some basic points that I wanted to get across because I want people to see the movie and find a piece of it that they can grab onto and be like, ‘okay, I get that.’" Directed by Nisha Ganatra, the film also features Chad Michael Murray reprising his role as Jake, Anna’s young love interest. Murray described the filming experience as a "lovefest," noting a strong sense of continuity and camaraderie compared to the original production. "It was the same, but better. It felt very much like connective tissue to the first movie. Everyone loved going to work and no one wanted to go home," he said. Marking Lohan’s return to the big screen, the actress admitted to feeling nervous but optimistic about the audience’s reception. "It’s obviously nerve-wracking because you want it to be great and you want people to love what you do," she said. "As long as people are enjoying what I’m doing and it’s making them happy, then I feel like I’m doing my job and that’s what I’m here to do." "Freakier Friday" is scheduled for global theatrical release on August 6, 2025.

Joshua-de-Vera-Premieres-'Elephant-Paths'-at-Sine-Kabataan-2025-Highlighting-Youth-Resilience-and-Memory

Joshua de Vera Premieres 'Elephant Paths' at Sine Kabataan 2025, Highlighting Youth Resilience and Memory

Joshua de Vera, a 23-year-old filmmaker, is set to debut his latest work, "Elephant Paths," at the upcoming Sine Kabataan 2025. The film narrates the story of fourteen adolescent misfits who establish a refuge within a town slowly disappearing from memory. Drawing inspiration from his experiences growing up in Bulacan, de Vera delves into themes of memory, loss, and the resilience of youth. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the film, de Vera shared on BNC\'s "Beautiful Day," "Once I returned to my barangay, the town hall was simply gone. Sometimes when I go back, the places I remember have vanished, replaced by spaces that don\'t seem designed for people like me." The film\'s title is derived from the phenomenon of a "desire path"—informal trails created by continuous foot traffic through untouched grasslands. In "Elephant Paths," the trail serves as both a metaphor and a sanctuary, representing an unstructured space where young people can exist freely. De Vera elaborated, "In the wild, elephants select the safest, most straightforward routes, which others then follow. I built the story around this concept. The path isn\'t given; it\'s forged." Having grown up in Malolos and currently residing independently in Manila, de Vera has been fascinated by what he terms "third spaces"—areas beyond home and school where personal identity is quietly nurtured. "These are places we intentionally choose," he noted. "They shape who we become, but unfortunately, they are becoming increasingly scarce." "Elephant Paths" marks de Vera\'s third film and represents his most ambitious production to date. The entire project was filmed outdoors during the storm season, involving a full ensemble cast along with a production crew mainly composed of young, queer artists from Bulacan and Manila. "We had to be on standby, waiting for the weather to calm before shooting," de Vera explained. "It was chaotic but also incredibly beautiful." At the heart of the film lies the character Lance, a teenager who, much like de Vera once did, feels a sense of betrayal by the world. The director did not shy away from the autobiographical elements imbued in the character. "There was a time I truly felt that way," he admitted. "The continuous rejection and obstacles weigh heavily. But I persisted because I believed in what I was creating." The narrative was further enriched through shared memories among the creative team, which includes emerging Manila-based filmmakers. Notably, cinematographer Ren Strahano, also from Bulacan, played a significant role. "We engaged in collective conversations, sharing our traumas related to our hometowns," de Vera said. "This became ingrained in the film\'s language." De Vera completed "Elephant Paths" while still a student, viewing it as both a conclusion of his academic journey and the beginning of his professional path. "It\'s my final student film," he said, "but it feels like my true debut." Above all, de Vera hopes the film conveys the message that young people deserve visibility—not as mere witnesses to change but as active participants in shaping the future. "I hope youth are no longer sidelined in development discussions," he expressed. "My goal is to bring them to the center." "Elephant Paths" is set to premiere in September 2025 during the annual Sine Kabataan festival. Screenings will be accessible free of charge to the public. De Vera himself intends to view the film from his own "third space," a place that still feels like home to him.
