Alexandra Eala to Clash with Wang Xinyu in ASB Classic Semifinals

Alexandra “Alex” Eala is poised to take on China's Wang Xinyu in the semifinals of the ASB Classic singles tournament scheduled for Saturday. Eala secured her spot by defeating Poland's Magda Linette with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory in the quarterfinals.

Wang, seeded seventh in the tournament, holds the No. 57 position in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, slightly trailing Eala who currently ranks at No. 53. At 24 years old, Wang has previously achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 32 in 2023.

Should Eala win the upcoming match, she will face the winner of the other semifinal matchup between Elina Svitolina and Iva Jovic. By reaching the semifinals, Eala has already earned 98 WTA ranking points and a prize of $12,331.

Eala made history in 2025 by breaking into the WTA Top 100 and capturing her first WTA 125 title in Guadalajara, along with winning her first Southeast Asian Games gold medal, marking significant milestones in her career.
