DepEd Denies Cancellation of School Christmas Parties Amid Viral Fake News
The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued a warning against a viral social media post falsely asserting that Christmas parties in schools have been canceled this year. In an advisory released on November 23, DepEd emphasized that it has not made any announcement regarding the suspension or prohibition of Christmas festivities in either public or private educational institutions.
DepEd highlighted the need for the public to stay alert and critical of misinformation spreading online. The agency stated, "The circulating post about the supposed removal of Christmas parties in schools is fake news."
Further urging vigilance, DepEd encouraged individuals to report social media pages and accounts responsible for disseminating false information to curb the spread of deceptive content.
The department reminded parents, teachers, and students to obtain accurate updates solely from DepEd's official social media platforms and website. "We advise the public to be discerning and to report pages that spread false information," the agency added.
This move seeks to ensure that verified information prevails and that school communities remain well-informed regarding official celebrations and announcements.
