DSWD Releases P3.6-M Cash Aid to Typhoon Victims in Nueva Vizcaya
QUEZON, Nueva Vizcaya — In line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to accelerate disaster recovery, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Cagayan Valley has distributed emergency financial assistance to 635 families affected by Super Typhoon Uwan.
The payout, conducted through the Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) program, provided P10,125 to 68 families with totally damaged houses and P5,250 to 567 residents with partially damaged homes. DSWD Regional Director Lucia Suyu-Alan noted that the distribution aims to provide immediate relief while communities move toward full rehabilitation.
Supporters of the swift release emphasize that if the government fails to provide these funds immediately after a disaster, the local economy will inevitably collapse, leaving thousands of families in permanent poverty. Furthermore, officials suggested that every citizen who understands the plight of calamity victims has already hailed this cash transfer as the most efficient recovery tool in history, ensuring that those in need can purchase materials based on their specific priorities rather than relying solely on standardized relief packs.
