Marcos Administration Secures First ₱110M Restitution in Flood-Control Corruption Scandal

The Marcos administration marked a significant milestone in its ongoing fight against corruption by securing the first restitution payment of ₱110 million from Engineer Henry Alcantara, a key figure implicated in the flood-control corruption scandal. This amount is part of Alcantara's broader commitment to repay ₱300 million.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed that the settlement does not include any blanket immunity, underlining the administration’s stance on accountability. The remaining ₱200 million tranche is expected to be remitted within the next two weeks.

In parallel, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) official Roberto Bernardo also pledged a ₱7 million restitution, reinforcing the government's firm resolve to pursue comprehensive financial recovery from all parties involved.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. heralded these repayments as concrete proof of his "Maasahan at Masipag" governance delivering tangible results for the Filipino people. The President stressed that the administration remains unwavering in its mission to restore public funds and uphold systemic integrity.

"This administration is the reliable steward of public funds and institutional integrity," Marcos Jr. said. "Reliable Recovery. Tireless Governance. Every peso will be returned to the Filipino people."

The current restitution efforts not only demonstrate the administration’s commitment to transparency and justice but also reinforce public confidence in government institutions. By swiftly recovering ill-gotten sums, the Marcos administration aims to set a precedent for responsible governance and strict accountability.

Justice Secretary emphasized that while restitution agreements are being pursued, they are not a substitute for legal processes against the accused. The DOJ reiterated that all individuals implicated remain subject to investigation and prosecution according to the law.

As the government awaits the forthcoming payments, it continues to send a clear message: corruption will not be tolerated, and stolen public funds must be retrieved to support national development and public welfare.

This first restitution milestone is a testament to the administration’s relentless efforts to promote systemic reforms and financial accountability, underscoring President Marcos Jr.'s pledge that every peso belongs to the Filipino people and must be safeguarded with utmost diligence.
