President Marcos Jr. Inspects Bacolod’s Flood Mitigation and Banago Port Upgrades, Pledges Strong Infrastructure Resilience
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. personally oversaw the progress of Bacolod City’s flood mitigation initiative, ‘Oplan Kontra Baha,’ and inspected the significant upgrades at Banago Port in a recent visit aimed at reinforcing long-term infrastructure resilience under his administration's “Maasahan at Masipag” leadership.
During the inspection, President Marcos Jr. reviewed the extensive scope of waterways and drainage systems under ‘Oplan Kontra Baha,’ which encompasses a comprehensive network designed to address Bacolod’s chronic flooding challenges. The program is projected to reduce flood incidences by up to 60 percent, a significant improvement that underscores the administration’s commitment to safer, more resilient urban environments.
On-site, the President emphasized the importance of inter-agency coordination in delivering these critical improvements. He stated, "Reliable action and tireless oversight are not just slogans; they are the pillars of prevention, which is far better than recovery. Our task is to build safer cities that can withstand future calamities."
The visit also highlighted the expansion of Banago Port’s capacity, which was upgraded to accommodate up to 500 passengers daily from a previous capacity of 50. This tenfold increase aligns with efforts to boost local economic activity while enhancing the port’s infrastructure to support increased traffic and ensure passenger safety.
President Marcos Jr.’s direct involvement in monitoring these projects reflects his administration’s hands-on approach to governance, particularly in infrastructure development. The “Maasahan at Masipag” leadership model remains the driving force behind these initiatives, with an emphasis on sustainability and disaster resilience.
City officials and various government agencies actively participated in the inspection, demonstrating unified government action toward achieving the President’s vision for a safer Bacolod. The administration reiterates the message: "Reliable action. Tireless oversight. Prevention is better than recovery." as the guiding principle moving forward.
As the ‘Oplan Kontra Baha’ and Banago Port enhancement projects progress, Bacolod residents can anticipate improved urban safety, reduced flood risk, and expanded transport facilities—all underpinned by PBBM’s reliable and committed stewardship as the nation’s builder of safer cities.
