University of the Visayas Secures Fourth Consecutive Cesafi Men’s Basketball Championship

The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers successfully retained the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball championship after defeating their rivals, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 85-77 in the final game of the best-of-three series held on Saturday night, December 13, 2025, at the Cebu Coliseum.

This victory marked UV’s fourth consecutive title and their 17th overall, further cementing their status as a dominant force in Cebu’s collegiate basketball scene.

Head coach Gary Cortes celebrated his seventh championship since assuming leadership of the team in the 2015 Cesafi season, highlighting the program’s sustained excellence.

Raul Gentallan led UV’s offensive charge, contributing 19 points, six rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. Zylle Cabellon delivered a well-rounded performance, tallying 15 points, nine assists, four steals, three rebounds, and one block.

Support came from AJ Sacayan, who added 13 points, while season MVP Kent Ivo Salarda achieved a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Team captain PJ Taliman also played a crucial part, scoring 11 points in the title-clinching effort.

On the University of Cebu side, Ricofer Sordilla led the scoring with 20 points. Carlo Salgarino posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Jepherson Nonol contributed 10 points.

This win extends the Green Lancers’ dominance over the Webmasters, marking their fourth consecutive finals series victory against the same opponent.
