Patrolman Dies After Motorcycle Accident and Being Struck by Bus in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines — A patrolman lost his life following a motorcycle accident and subsequent collision with a passing bus in Cubao, Quezon City on the evening of August 1, police confirmed on Sunday.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the victim as Patrolman Arde Saavedra. Saavedra was en route to his duty station when his motorcycle struck an obstacle, causing him to fall near the intersection of P. Tuazon Boulevard and C. Benitez Street in Barangay Kaunlaran at approximately 9:55 p.m.

CCTV footage obtained by authorities revealed that while Saavedra was lying on the road, he was immediately struck by a bus driven by Rafael Mapoy. The incident was promptly reported to the police around 10 p.m., and emergency responders transported Saavedra to the nearest hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at about 10:25 p.m.

Mapoy is currently detained by authorities, and the case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) of the QCPD for further examination. Officials continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident as part of their ongoing inquiry.
