Negros Occidental Farmer Fatally Shot in Early Morning Attack
A 73-year-old farmer was fatally shot Monday morning near Sitio Talave, Barangay Punao, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. The victim, Cresencio Poloyapoy of Barangay Pinucotan in Calatrava, was reportedly seated on the pavement by Talave Road shortly after disembarking from a passenger jeepney coming from Calatrava around 6:50 a.m.\n\nAccording to preliminary police accounts, two unidentified individuals approached Poloyapoy and opened fire before fleeing on a black Rusi motorcycle toward Calatrava. Poloyapoy suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including a critical injury to his diaphragm and a facial wound, and was declared dead at the scene.\n\nThe City Health Officer was notified promptly to perform a post-mortem examination, confirming the victim's death.\n\nInvestigations have revealed a possible motive linked to family tensions. The victim's live-in partner indicated suspicion toward Poloyapoy's son, known as "Billy." The night before the shooting, a dispute arose after Poloyapoy asked his son to stop a karaoke session so he could rest. When Billy allegedly refused and continued singing, Poloyapoy unplugged the electricity extension supplying power to Billy's residence. Following this incident, Billy reportedly exhibited increased irritability.\n\nPolice have identified Billy as a person of interest and are actively seeking to locate him. Authorities are also reviewing available CCTV footage to identify the shooters and gather additional evidence to support the investigation.\n\nThe victim's remains have been transferred to a funeral home pending final disposition.
