Taiwanese Fugitive Arrested at Philippine Port Amid Interpol Alert
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of a 54-year-old Taiwanese man wanted in the United States while he was en route to the Philippines by sea. The interception occurred on November 22, when the vessel traveling from Kaohsiung docked at the Port of Currimao in Ilocos Norte. Immigration officers acted promptly after receiving and verifying an Interpol alert soon after the ship entered Philippine territorial waters.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized that the apprehension demonstrated the agency's commitment to preventing fugitives from exploiting the Philippines as a sanctuary. The immigration team aboard collaborated closely with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and other relevant authorities to facilitate the arrest.
Upon docking, the suspect was turned over to the BI's Fugitive Search Unit and now faces deportation proceedings in accordance with immigration laws and the confirmed alert. The Bureau reaffirmed its ongoing cooperation with local and international enforcement agencies to safeguard the nation's borders against illegal entry and escape of wanted individuals.
